Used shipping containers are an ideal way to create affordable offices or other commercial space. We at Tempohousing have built our own office in Amsterdam with used containers, as well as a supermarket, a laundry and café. It has to be noted however that these are 'specials' created for Tempohousing and not regular products such as the student homes or hotel rooms. The steel shells have to be completely modified to create large open spaces with additional steel frames and columns, thus loosing the cost advantage of old shipping containers.
